Dr. Catherine Flynn serves as a full-time professor in the School of Business and Information Technology teaching business communications. Dr. Flynn is a career educator with more than 30 years in the teaching profession.
Following completion of a bachelor's degree in English, Dr. Flynn served as a trade journal editor for Cardiff Publishing Co. in Denver for 6 years. Dr. Flynn returned to her alma mater Western State Colorado University (WSCU) to pursue a master's degree in English. She taught at WSCU for 2 years as an adjunct professor before moving to Albuquerque to pursue a PhD at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Dr. Flynn taught at Central New Mexico Community College while pursuing her PhD in literature at UNM. Dr. Flynn moved to Colorado and taught at Colorado School of Mines before accepting a position as Director of Distance Learning for Colorado Technical University (CTU).
She earned a doctorate in management at CTU. Dr. Flynn joined Kaplan University in 2002.
Her research interests include self-regulated learning in the online environment, and effective strategies for teaching business writing. She is also committed to community projects and earned a master's degree in human services through Kaplan University's Gift of Knowledge program.
Dr. Flynn is co-director of a small nonprofit agency in her community to address issues of affordable housing.
